Calibration Station Bracket Assemblies
Waymo
To test the new version of the Laser Bear sensor, we needed new brackets and tooling for the calibration station that could also be adapted to two other test stations. I was tasked with designing, drafting, procuring, and installing the two brackets, one for the new design and one for the older version, and the tooling assemblies for both adapters to mount in the test stations.
The installation mechanism was iterated to ensure the brackets could be installed and removed easily by the operator, utilizing an off-the-shelf thumb screw to hold the brackets in place. Features were added to avoid blocking the device cables and wings were added to interface with existing slots in the other test stations. To save on manufacturing cost and time, two of the parts were broken up into sub-assemblies.
The adapter for the new version of the sensor was successfully installed into the calibration station and both versions were fit-checked into the other two stations. I unfortunately left the company before a successful test could be run with an engineering unit.
